Daniel Fast Day 1

1 Jan

Hello and Greetings from my bed on January 1, 2012!!! Thank God for allowing us to see a New Year! Not going to write too much this evening, I will write a Day 1 Pt. 2 post tomorrow.

However, I have been on a food shopping rampage for the last two days and I am pooped out! This afternoon after church I immediately went to the grocery store to buy some veggie burgers and ended getting these brilliant ideas for more meals during the fast. Such as: veggie sausages in homemade Italian sauce, spinach whole wheat orzo and homemade hummus. The day before was a mess and a half because after the gym I went to three different farmers markets to get fruits and veggies. I will try and post a picture of my fridge last night. So, when I got home from shopping this afternoon I attacked all the fruits and veggies and started separating them into sandwich bags so I wouldn’t have to do it daily. 7 hours later I am writing this blog! Wow!! I achieved a lot the only thing I didn’t do was eat the entire time and cut two heads of lettuce. Lol!

Tomorrow I will tell you the rest of my Day 1 and oh before I forget my dinner was awful but I am mentally preparing myself for this box of cereal until the end of the fast. I had shredded wheat cereal with unsweetened soy milk. I am already used to drinking soy but with vanilla flavor however this cereal shouldn’t be sold in stores. It gets soggy wayyyy too quickly and I do not like soggy cereal. I wanted to gag while eating this cereal. Tomorrow morning before the gym I know to add fruit and less milk!

I am reading my usual bible reading (the next three chapters of Revelation for my bible study on Wednesday) and I am also reading Psalms 1 & 2 for the Daniel Fast!

Have a good night!

This is the refrigerator, lots of veggies behind veggies!

For those of you who follow my blog, who are also fasting, may God give you strength during this journey to draw closer to Him. Xoxo

You go girl. It’s a whole lot of mental preparation for the withdrawal symptoms of your fave meals. You’re up to a great start! Stocked up on water, fruits, beans, and gonna get more veggies within the week. Hummus check, gotta get some unleavened bread. I guess I gotta go to a kosher store. God bless for sharing 😀

Sounds like you had a productive Day 1! I just want to encourage you to seek the Lord wholeheartedly over the next three weeks. Also, a helpful resource for your fast would be my book, The Ultimate Guide to the Daniel Fast. In fact, the Kindle or NOOK version is on sale right now for only $3.99 (Jan 2nd is last day). I pray the Lord blesses you richly as you hunger for Him! Here’s the link for more info on my book: http://www.ultimatedanielfast.com/2010/12/ultimate-guide-to-daniel-fast-by.html.

    Good Luck,

I will be sure to keep you posted when I start my fast too.

God bless you as you fast!

As I read Bernadette’s post on fasting I realized that this was something that God has been leading me toward for awhile.

I was not sure when I would be gin or of the duration until Church this morning. I had not yet had breakfast and God impressed me very strongly and clearly that the fast had already begun. Scrap breakfast plans with my wife, my Lord had other ideas.

So, I am now near the end of day 1 of a three day juice fast.

Thank you for sharing your story of the beginning of your fast. If you plan on chronicling your journey, I look forward to following along.

Eating healthy is not just good for the body, but good for the soul. As our bodies adjust to the new regime and our blood is cleansed our minds clear and we are able to think and meditate in a more focused fashion. Might I suggest something however? Not to take anything away from what you are doing now, I think its great, but how about refraining from calling it a fast, forget about the time limitations, and make it a permanent lifestyle choice? After all, Daniel didn’t eat that way just for special occasions, his whole life was dedicated to glorifying God in all he did, every day of the year. Ought we not do the same? Blessings as you draw closer to our Saviour.

      Hi Brakelite,

I absolutely will continue to glorify God each and every day of my life until the end of it or until He returns again. There is nothing wrong with eating the way I am eating, in fact it has opened my eyes to the vegan lifestyle and I love it. I will continue to make meals and eat at vegan restaurants after the fast. However, as it does say in the scripture that Daniel did fast for 21 days and for 40 days, I have chosen to honor God and take some things out of my daily food intake to honor Him in a different way. I am not saying that one day I may not become a vegetarian or a vegan but right now I am delighted to partake in this 21 day fast. I know God is as well.
      Thanks for stopping by.
